HAPPY NEW YEAR by Al G

Ah, tis THE SEASON indeed. Another healthy and joyous year comes to a happy ending with thoughts for all of us; us and you, the reader and hopefully listener to our Tee It Up Radio Network.

The golf season everywhere, but Florida, California and Hawaii are right around the corner. These areas playing a lot of rounds now and I’m sure I will hear from you on that note about good/bad weather areas; oh well,  don’t be mad at me. We love all parts of these United States and the many great courses that lie abound.

Its time for most of us to get in better health and shape.   New Years resolutions time, once again. I’ve just started my new healthy regime; in the gym 4 mornings a week- a good 2 hour work out with a stretching class and core exercises.  Life is a bitch.  But who’s complaining?   We need to all “keep pushing”, trying to eat healthier.  Shouldn’t all of us? It’s New Years 2012 very soon and the more flexible we all are, hopefully the better improved golf game to look forward too.

Looking back, it was great to see Tiger’s breakthrough in the win column.   New exciting Tiger moments about to happen. Great for the game! Aren’t we all looking forward to the Tournament of Champions kicking things off in January from Maui – yes.   Then, the western golf swing with the likes of the ol’ Bob Hope, now former President – golfer, Bill Clinton heads up the ol’ desert classic with Humana and talking more good health is the theme; Torrey, Pebble, Scottsdale TPC (madness in that desert), WGC in Tucson, and of course ol’ Riviera and the Northern Trust LA Open – “Hogans Alley”,  and the rich in tradition stories about the tour out here in the west. Then comes the Florida swing; Houston’s Shell Open and then The Masters. Our “Coach” PGA brothern member, Tracy Roberts (co host) of our own very much Tee It Up show – remember this,  predicts Tiger to win in Augusta within the next 5 months. That would be very cool.

So, this is how 2012  begins.  Finally,  I want to thank our members of the greatest armed forces in the world; our men and women of these United States Marines, Army, Navy, Coast Guard, last but not least US Air Force, and say “great job”  to all for what you did for us these past 11 years for sure and beyond.  We are very fortunate to all be in the best place on earth to live and enjoy our families, friends, and the greatest game of em’ all.

We look forward to bringing all of you the same great deep “discounts” from so many of our great advertising sponsors of the show and site; from golf equipment, clothing, accessories, learning aids, golf trips, “Denny Lesser Jewelry”, to you naming it. Merry Xmas, Happy Chanukah, and a Happy Healthy New Year!

Fighting for FREEDOM by AJ

As we approach our most meaningful holiday, Veterans Day, I recognize how truly blessed I am to live in the United States of America. Although I am only 31, I have experienced a lot in my early years and have learned not to take anything for granted, even if times get rough. Life is precious. Life wouldn’t be the same if I lived elsewhere. We are given a gift here in the US, thanks to the service men and women who guard our walls so that we can sleep without worry at night.

Not that I am thinking we are going to get attacked by another country here at home, then again I guess that’s my point. These men and women work so hard and stand guard so things like that don’t happen. Imagine living in Beirut or Somalia where the government isn’t protective as they should. I think about my grandfathers who were drafted without choice and my father who enlisted to serve for us all. Thank god they made it back alive. Thank god for all those who have made it back alive. It saddens me to hear about the ones who have not, but there’s not one day that goes by that I don’t appreciate their choices. THANK YOU.

I LOOK FORWARD TO DECEMBER 5TH here in Los Angeles as we raise awareness and funds for the Wounded Warrior Project. Our 6th Annual Tee It Up Celebrity Golf Classic will take off again, all for a great cause. For those who are unable to make it, we are accepting donations – made out to the WOUNDED WARRIOR PROJECT. From as little as $1.00 or more. Send us an email @ golf classic@teeitupshow.com to receive mailing instructions.

THANK YOU.

HOMELESS IN AMERICA by AL G.

This morning, as I awoke to one of the most magnificent Southern California cold, clear, bright, and sunny mornings, I had only pitty for myself. I started complaining and whining to myself. I have a small case of the “common cold”,  feeling a bit under the weather; bitching to myself, that I couldn’t go to my early morning daily routine workout at my gym to work these aging muscles and do my 25 minutes of cardio work. Ah pitty me; poor old Al G.

Here’s the real “wakeup call”. In stead of heading to the gym, I headed straight for an early arrival to our offices, along Ventura Blvd. in Sherman Oaks, Ca.  Parked the “brand new” vehicle in front, admiring it but yet still complaining; poor ol’ Al didn’t feel so good.   Then
“REALITY” hits. Seated on our front porch of our “upscale” offices is a nice lady, obviously “homeless” strikes up a conversation with me, asking for a dollar bill. I immediately give her a $10.00 bill. I proceed to ask her, where she slept last night? It was an extremely cold winter night and morning again here in Sherman oaks.

The lady tells me she slept across the street in the shelter of a neighboring retail business. I ask her about why not the local churches, shelters, missions, etc. So firstly, I think about the life I lead, all us lead.  Being better educated, more affluent and a bit higher income; the new vehicle im driving, the nice offices, the warmth of my new winter clothing, THE HELL with my pitty, my common case of sniffles. REALITY, IM NOT HOMELESS! Here’s the sad state of further more reality.

The “LADY” proceeds to answer my questions of above (shelters – churches – missions). She says “they” want to give help, food, beds and shelter to (get this now) “PROSTITUTES”, was the word she used.  She went on to say, SEX.. “THEY” want sex in exchange for taking care of her and mostly them, for trading SEXUAL favors. Honest to god, this was one of the most startling exchanges I have ever encountered.  Think about it.  Who’s them?  Our leaders – men &/or women of the cloth?  Gets you thinking.  Gets your brain churning!

Morale to story.  Something MORE needs to be done with this category of society.  Not enough golf tournaments can make a difference. The next time you see and talk to a homeless person,  we all “encounter” those less fortunate ones,  think about this happening, for it being my morning so far. All is not equal for mankind.

positive vs. negative by AL G

Positive versus Negative…

With all the lousy economic stories we hear daily: foreclosures, unemployment, demonstrations and lazy ass demonstrators (by the way if there is WILL, there are jobs available in these great United States). I read the classified ads daily. Jobs are posted and many other places need help. Some people just don’t want to work. Either their unemployment payments are good enough levels of income for them or they wont work for just above minimum wage till something better goes there way. By paying attention to job avails, PLUS without again recognizing the freedom demonstrators get to enjoy – only in America in most cases I’m sure they don’t even realize how fortunate they are living here. Let them go try living in Egypt or Libya or somewhere else overseas. The bickering going on with the Republican Presidential candidates; bickering that goes on in your daily job environment or family clusters; enough already!  What about saying thank god I’m healthy. Some people are not healthy; some people are dying daily; some are suffering from some disease. Get off your ASSES! Keep moving. Donate your time to a charity or someone less fortunate. I personally know a lot of people who volunteer for good causes and help friends and people out.

Be happy AND stop bitching. Do something positive. Adam and I just got through interviewing PGA touring golf pro Hunter Mahan.  He is positive; he is honoring all connected with the dreaded disease Alzheimer’s.  He is making a guest server appearance December 5th, here locally at a nearby Beverly Hills Morton’s raising monies for the cause; he also likes us and loves honoring the Wounded Warrior Project.

Finally, to quote the great LA Dodger, Tommy Lasorda, “be happy, be proud and be grateful”.

GOLF TECHNOLOGY BY AJ

So, we interviewed Nate Radcliffe from Cleveland Golf this past week – R&D guru there…talking metal woods and so forth. I do not mean to toot my own horn, but I must give ALMOST all credit to my equipment for playing as well as I am these days.  I have been fitted to my Cleveland Irons (CG 1’s), fairway 4-wood, mashie’s (hybrids), Ultra-Lite Launcher Driver and even my amazing Never Compromise Gambler Putter. I am a strong believer in getting fitted but even if you cannot make it to a fitting studio, they have an online fitting system that works quite well and doesn’t take long at all.

I have to say the product is amazing. I played Taylormade for 13 straight years, then switched to PING and have been playing Cleveland. Srixon product for the last two years. Let me just say I have gone from being a 1-3 inconsistent handicap to a consistent +1. I am averaging 300 or more off the tee when I used to average 285 or so. I have more confidence in my irons and my hybrids are the best. In fact, my hybrids known as the MASHIE are the best Hybrids on the market right now. NO JOKE. I swear by them. Please take my advice and at least give them a try. You will not be disappointed. In fact, you’ll be thanking me after your first round using the new Cleveland product!

You might wonder why this blog is about the product and pushing Cleveland. Personally, it’s your choice. But this comes from a newfound love and passion I have for the technology. It’s where it’s at. DO IT. TRY IT. MOVE UP! AND TEE IT UP!

ALL ABOUT RATINGS. Enough is enough! by AJ

Here's why I have a problem with this years US Open - MY FAVORITE MAJOR BY THE WAY. Let me start by saying I am in no way trying to take anything away from Rory M or whom I like to call Mr. 22. He certainly swept the field, regardless. However, the USGA understands what kind of punch Tiger Woods packs and without him, they realized where they'd be in ratings, so what do they do? By the way, these days I'm not the biggest Tiger fan (although i appreciate what he has done for us all in GOLF), so this comes truly from a G-O-L-F fans perspective.

Bryant Gumbel said it best on HBO's REAL SPORTS: The USGA had to give something to viewers since Tiger was out, so they shortened the rough, softened the greens, and eased up pin positions, to say the least.

Here's where your eyes start to get wider. The US Open had 20 players end up under par. Take the last 12 opens and you'll get that amount of players under! Pathetic. Again, no offense to Rory, but really?

Sorry, but the US Open is supposed to be the hardest test in GOLF and it clearly wasn't this year. To compare this years stats, records etc to previous years is out of line and plain stupid.

Keep it in the fairway. Play your best. Enjoy what golf is about.

GOD BLESS AMERICA! HAPPY 4TH TO ALL…by Al Gottfried
